Need
Identify, inspire, and equip an emerging generation of Reformed campus ministers
Goals
1. To extend the mission of a given campus ministry at a public university.
2. To develop missional gifts of students from within a Reformed identity and vision.
3. To create mentoring relationships which model and multiply leaders.
4. To encourage campus ministers to seek out emerging leaders.
In other words, this grant is not intended as a means of getting extra help around the office. It is an intentional mentoring relationship in Reformed, kingdom leadership.
Plan
1. To offer a grant to support a "work-study" bursary to students at least halfway through their course of study which extends the current scope of mission on campus.
2. The grant would be no more than $1,000 per semester. (This assumes a 15-week semester, 7 hours work per week, at almost $10.00 per hour.)
3. No student would be eligible for grant support for more than 4 semesters.
For whom is this grant intended?
This grant is intended for students and emerging leaders who identify with the mission and vision of the CRC and want to test their calling in missional leadership. The applicant can be a student on a secular campus, a lay person from a local CRC, or a student from a nearby Christian College . Where they come from is not as important as their desire to experience missional vocation under the mentorship of a Reformed, Christian campus minister and to expand ministry to a secular campus. This is intended as a leadership development initiative under the mentorship of a campus minister, not as a church scholarship for university students involved in student ministry.
Application procedure
1. Grant applications should be submitted to the Educational Missions Leader, the Educational Missions Coordinator and your Regional Leader as early as possible, preferably by the end of September. Applications will be accepted until October 20 if funds are still available. All decisions regarding grant applications will be made by the Regional Leader and the Educational Missions Leader.
2. An application must include:
a. a formal letter from the chaplain that gives a detailed description of the proposed mission, (including a statement of the goals of the mission, a breakdown of how and when the student's time will be spent—meetings with mentor, study and preparation, event activities, etc.—and how this venture fits with, but extends, the mission of the campus ministry, and how the student will be nurtured in a Reformed, kingdom vision for mission)
On acceptance of this proposal, the Emerging Leader will be required to submit:
a. a brief (1 page) profile telling a bit about him/herself and what goals they have for this position.
b. a photo of themselves for promotional purposes.
3. Within one month of the close of the term, the student will submit to the mentor a brief evaluation of program and a short reflection on how the student's missional skills were employed and developed over the term. The chaplain will also be asked to submit a brief evaluation.
Note: There are no specific forms to fill out for this scholarship. We hope that this will enable you to “tell the stories” in a way that is best suited to you. Any questions about this application procedure can be directed to Angela.
